Last week, the students of the Project Excel afterschool program were treated to an incredible Spring Egg Hunt, hosted by our very own Uniondale High School Student Council!
This wonderful event was the brainchild of Shelcy Supre, who took the lead on every detail—from initial planning and communicating with Mr. Bracht and Dr. Tavares to coordinating a dedicated team of volunteers to pack and hide hundreds of eggs.
The result? Pure joy and smiles all around!
A massive thank you to Shelcy and all the Student Council members who stayed well after the school bell rang to create such a magical experience for the Walnut Street students. Your leadership and community spirit truly shine! ✨

One of our district’s primary goals is to prepare our students for the "real world." We believe in connecting classroom learning to life after graduation—and our EMT Course is an example of that mission in action.
This isn't just a textbook elective. Our students are training to become the next generation of first responders, learning to serve their communities when they are needed most.
Our practicing EMT instructors are not just teaching for a grade; we're preparing students for the certifications and demands of a career in emergency medicine.
We are incredibly proud of these students for stepping up to the challenge. They aren’t just preparing for a career; they’re preparing to save lives.

We are beyond proud of our Grand Avenue Scholars, who absolutely shone at the Board of Education meeting, highlighting their TEDx experience. These students didn’t just share "ideas"—they shared vision, heart, and the incredible journey of finding their own voices.
Watching them speak with such poise and passion was a point of pride for all. A massive thank you to Mr. Weiss for his mentorship and for tirelessly working to bring our student voices to a global stage.

This week Uniondale's AP Ambassadors traveled to our state's capital in Albany, NY, to participate in the College Board’s AP Lobby Day. These students met with state representatives to advocate for sustained and increased funding for Advanced Placement programs. The focus of the visit was clear: Closing the access gap. By securing proper funding, we ensure that rigorous, college-level curriculum is accessible to all students, regardless of their background or zip code. Seeing our students transition from the classroom to the halls of government to fight for their peers is a testament to the leadership being fostered in our district. @collegeboard #Advocacy #APLobbyDay #UniondaleSchools #EducationalLeadership #NewYorkEducation

Dear Uniondale Community,

Dear Uniondale Community,
I am pleased to share that tomorrow, Wednesday, February 25, 2026, our schools will be open as regularly scheduled. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our grounds crew and facilities team for their hard work.
We have been in communication with Town of Hempstead leadership regarding the roadways surrounding our school buildings. That said, it is still likely that road conditions will be challenging tomorrow morning. Please plan accordingly and use caution as you travel, as safety for all is our top priority. Our buses may experience delays in some neighborhoods, and we appreciate your patience.
Thank you, as always, for your partnership, your patience, and your shared commitment to keeping our students safe — we look forward to welcoming all of our students and staff back tomorrow.

Due to inclement weather conditions, the Board of Education Action Meeting originally scheduled for tomorrow, February 24, 2026, has been postponed. The next scheduled Action Meeting will now take place on March 10, 2026. We apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding. The safety of our community and staff remains our top priority.
Dear Uniondale Community,
In light of the recent severe weather and the extensive cleanup efforts required to make our campuses safe, all schools in the district will be closed tomorrow, February 24th.
Our primary priority is the safety of our students, staff, and families. While buildings are closed, we want to extend our deepest gratitude to our Facilities Department and Grounds Crew. These dedicated individuals have been out braving the elements to begin the massive task of snow clearing, ensuring we can return to our routines as soon as possible.
Please note the following for tomorrow:
No Remote Instruction: There will be no formal remote learning or required assignments, however, we encourage all scholars to take this time to catch up on a good book. Remember, readers are leaders!
Please stay safe, stay warm, and we look forward to seeing everyone back at school soon.
Sincerely,
Monique Darrisaw-Akil, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools

Due to the inclement weather and in the interest of safety for all students and staff, the Uniondale School District will be closed on Monday, February 23, 2026. All classes and activities are cancelled for the day. Stay safe and warm!
