Super Science Saturdays are Back at Uniondale School District
UNIONDALE, NEW YORK (OCTOBER 2023) —The Uniondale School District is thrilled to announce the triumphant return of Super Science Saturdays, a series of collaborative STEM sessions designed to engage students and their parents in critical thinking and problem-solving. These hands-on sessions align seamlessly with the District's educational goals, emphasizing cognitive engagement.
“Super Science Saturdays are a testament to our commitment to fostering a passion for learning,” said Superintendent Dr. Monique Darrisaw-Akil. “We believe that in the world of STEM, the journey is as exciting as the destination, and this event truly highlights that spirit.” Elementary students (Grades 3-5) actively participated in STEM challenges, showcasing their enthusiasm and ingenuity as they delved into a world of science and exploration. One of the highlights included Lego Robots programmed using Scratch block-based coding, allowing young minds to discover the world of robotics and coding.
In addition, participants engaged in a hands-on simulation of cleaning the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a powerful demonstration of environmental stewardship. The event fostered collaboration between students and parents, inspiring them to work together on real-world problems, mirroring the district's commitment to collaborative learning.
The event took place at Smith Street Elementary School (780 Smith Street, Uniondale, NY 11553) on Saturday, October 14, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
