Uniondale Scholars Jumpstart their Careers
Turtle Hook Middle School Scholars Learn about Possible Career Options

Uniondale Union Free School District’s Turtle Hook Middle School scholars recently participated in the Junior Achievement virtual career event. Junior Achievement Inspire is a platform created for middle school scholars to master the three pillars of scholar success—financial literacy, entrepreneurship and work readiness.

During the Junior Achievement Inspire expo, scholars gained insight into career opportunities and networked with business professionals. Scholars learned about the importance of their high school career, from the classes they take to the grades they earn and how each can affect their future career expectations. They also learned about the educational requirements for different careers.

“Uniondale Union Free School District begins preparing our scholars for life post-graduation early on,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Monique Darrisaw-Akil. “By exposing our young scholars to career events, it begins to give them the knowledge they need to make informed career choices and an opportunity to start to plan ahead.”

The virtual event is open for scholars to browse throughout the summer, allowing scholars to ask questions, view resources and attend webinars from dozens of companies. Scholars can enter the “exhibit hall” to learn about different career options in each career cluster. Companies listed in the platform include AIG, PayPal, Delta, PepsiCo, American Express, US Bank and more.
