Uniondale’s Northern Parkway Named an I-Ready Super School
Northern Parkway Scholars were in it to Win it in the March Madness Competition
Uniondale Union Free School District’s Northern Parkway School has been named an I-Ready Super School for its students’, teachers’ and administrators’ hard work during the March Madness I-Ready Challenge. Curriculum Associates recognized Northern Parkway as one of the top three schools on Long Island to compete in the academic online challenge. Over the course of five weeks, Northern Parkway scholars put their reading and math skills to the test, competing against other classes in their school and ultimately becoming one of the top three most engaged schools on Long Island.
“A big congratulations to Northern Parkway’s scholars, teachers and administration,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Monique Darrisaw-Akil. “Our scholars are dedicated young individuals who passed so many math and reading courses that they were among the top three participants of the program on Long Island. It is incredible to see how incorporating the use of this technology that produces personalized programs of instruction and adding in a little competition had our scholars racing to master each course. While they may have been competing with the idea of a prize in mind, they are also leaving this competition with new reading and math skills they have now mastered.”
In April, Northern Parkway School held a celebration Zoom to announce the bracket winners. Grade by grade, the winning class and top individual competitors were declared.
“First, we introduced our class winners. Now, we get to inform our scholars that they were among the top three schools in the competition regarding their level of participation and accuracy,” said Assistant Principal Dr. Sheilah Jefferson-Isaac. “I am immensely proud of our young scholars and am looking forward to celebrating this momentous achievement.”
