Turtle Hook Middle School Celebrates Difference On World Autism Day

Puzzle Pieces, Infinity Symbols and Blue Attire Are Just Some of the Ways Turtle Hook Raises Awareness

In recognition of World Autism Awareness Day, celebrated this year on Saturday, April 2nd, classes at Turtle Hook Middle School received lessons on Autism Awareness.

In 7th and 8th grade English Language Arts classes, the lesson objective was, “I can learn about Autism and celebrate what makes us different.” Students practiced reading comprehension to assess their retention of information taught throughout the lesson. Then, students created their own infinity symbol. Each was personally designed to represent and celebrate what makes every student different. The infinity symbol has recently been adapted as a symbol to represent the evolving understanding of Autism which emphasizes that it is a spectrum.
