The Uniondale School District Library curriculum reflects national information literacy and New York State learning standards. The curriculum focuses upon strategies to teach and integrate information skills, broaden the use of resources, and support the local curriculum. A highlight of this effort is the integration of technology into specific learning plans. The library program is topic-driven, looking to the classroom curriculum for areas in which to coordinate learning and teaching activities and incorporate the research process. Encouraging a love of independent learning and reading is another integral component of the library curriculum.
Application
of this curriculum on all levels will promote more uniform and improved student
outcomes in the research process, critical media usage, and literacy.
The Uniondale School Library Curriculum Chart will serve as the
centerpiece for curricular development and integration in the library
department. The chart provides a
scope and sequence for student development at all grade levels and across all
disciplines with indicators specifying when skills are introduced, taught, and
applied.
