Uniondale School Library Media Services
At the heart of every Uniondale
school's learning community is the library with a program designed to be closely
aligned with the curriculum, a mission to help students succeed as learners,
information seekers and users, and a commitment to instill in students a love
for reading.

The Uniondale K-12 School Library Curriculum
Chart is the centerpiece for curriculum development and integration. It has five
major components:

Library
Orientation — Students are
introduced to each of their school libraries, gaining an understanding
of rules, policies, and procedures. |

Resource
Selection and Access
— Students discover the many facets of a wide variety of
resources, including an understanding of parts of a book, types of print
and non-print resources, and genre. |

Research/Resource
Utilization —
Students apply the research process in order to develop successful
strategies for locating, using, and evaluating information from a
extensive array of resources. |

Communication
of Information —
Students create presentations to inform or persuade in oral,
written, artistic, and/or multimedia formats. |

Literature
Appreciation and Comprehension — Students read literature for enrichment, gain an understanding of
literary elements, and hone skills in reading, writing, listening,
and speaking for comprehension. |
